The Lindamood-Bell® Learning Processes promote the
development of sensory-cognitive abilities that support
math, reading, spelling, comprehension, and writing. The
ability to learn and function well in an academic setting is
dependent on an integration of basic skills in language,
motor skills, listening, attention and executive
functioning.

Program, activity, and symptom descriptions are for educational/informational purposes only. Any recommendations

responsibility for their own child and make their own decisions as to the techniques and methodologies that will
best fit their child's needs.
The LiPS® program is designed to help students develop phonemic awareness, which is the ability to
identify individual sounds and their order within words for reading, spelling and speech.
This program uses a multi-sensory approach to teach the sounds of the English language through the
look and feel of the phonemes. Students develop an ability to use feedback that allows them to self
correct mistakes in speech, reading and spelling. LiPS® begins with oral motor control for producing
sounds and extends to multisyllabic and contextual levels of reading and spelling activities. This
program is effective with students who are unable to read and spell words sufficiently, and for those
who have been labeled dyslexic.
Students who may benefit from this program include those who are weak in:
  • Phonemic awareness
  • Spelling problems such as “gril” for “girl”
  • Adding, omit, substitute, and reverse sounds and letters
  • Making decoding errors such as reading “steam” for “stream”
  • Pronunciation errors like saying “curve” for curb, or “pacific”
    for specific
  • Apraxia
  • Dyslexic symptoms
When a student struggles with weak phonemic skills they may add, substitute, reverse, and omit
sounds and letters in words.
