People on the Autism Spectrum (AS) may have a diagnosis such as Autism,
Asperger’s Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified
(PDD-NOS), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), or Attention Deficit
Disorder (ADD). They may have unusual reactions to sensory input such as touch,
smell, taste, texture, sound, and light. There is often a challenge with social skills,
reading body language and facial expressions, sharing emotions, and

Autism is a whole-body condition

Following are some signs and symptoms that may point toward the autism spectrum:
- Developmentally delayed - does not meet the normal developmental milestones at the same
time as other children
- Repetitive behaviors and the need to stick to routines
- Poor social skills, inability to empathize, difficulty in developing and keeping friends
- Inability of two way or parallel play
- Delays of speech, repetitive use of speech
- Academic challenges
- Gastro-intestinal problems (chronic constipation or diarrhea)
- Food allergies, sensitivities and/or intolerances
- Preoccupation with certain topics
- Unresponsiveness when spoken to (may appear deaf yet has normal hearing)
- Severe sensitivity or lack of sensitivity to pain
- Developmental vision problems
- Sensitivity to loud noises or sounds
- Meltdowns, tantrums, or rages
A child diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) or Asperger’s may show many of
these symptoms. Many experts believe that PDD, Asperger’s and Autism are all part of the same
spectrum. Other disorders that may co-exist on this spectrum include ADHD, Mood disorders, Motor
Tic disorders, and Sensory Integration Dysfunction.
processing language. Those that are on the Autism Spectrum are often described
as very ‘black and white’ in their interpretation and rules about life. They may
have repetitive routines, language, rules, and activities.
Autism is a whole-body condition with many causes and many roads to recovery. Recent research
suggests that AS may be linked to irregularities in several areas of the brain, including the cerebellum,
corpus callosum, amygdala, and hippocampus. These differences may cause an individual to process
differently, causing sensory signals to be faulty, affecting social skills, and impacting how the person
thinks.

When families and caregivers begin looking into the various
treatment options available for autism spectrum disorders, they
will be surprised to find that there are many options out there...
Since individuals with autism spectrum disorders are not exactly
the same, treatment plans need to be made specific for each
individual. One thing's for sure, autism is not a hopeless diagnosis.
National Autism Association
Using a Neuro-Developmental approach, we have been able to bring about
profound changes for those on the higher functioning end of the Autism
Spectrum. By improving the brain’s organization and re-directing neural
pathways by way of neuro plasticity, changes in physical activity occur and
life can become less stressful.
Results we have seen include better eye contact, improved speech &
language skills, improved social interaction, increased ability to connect with
the world, and reduced anxiety.

responsibility for their own child and make their own decisions as to the techniques and methodologies that will
best fit their child's needs.
