medical and educational community. Quite often, these labels are applied early in a child’s life. An
estimated 4 to 8 percent of school-aged children are thought to be affected.
Many parents find a few years after their child is diagnosed, other diagnosis are
added, which give more detailed information about what their child is actually
struggling with.

Learning disabilities that can co-exist or may cause ADD/ADHD type symptoms
include: Central Auditory Processing Disorder, Dyslexia, un-integrated primary
reflexes, weak processing skills, and Language Disorders. These challenges occur
more frequently in children who are considered ADD/ADHD. These students also
have a decrease in success with academic skills like reading, spelling and math.
Schools will often try to accommodate the ADD/ADHD student. If the child still struggles in school the
parents may be referred to their doctor. Usually the recommendation is medication, which has side
effects and can be hard to regulate. With medication a child may be able to focus better in school,
but this will not resolve the underlying causes.

The truth is, the learning disabilities and processing skills deficits that are the root causes of
ADD/ADHD can often be remediated.
Program, activity, and symptom descriptions are for educational/informational purposes only. Any recommendations
given are not to be considered diagnosis, medical, or psychological prescriptions. Every parent needs to assume the
responsibility for their own child and make their own decisions as to the techniques and methodologies that will
best fit their child's needs.
